Prototype · a specification flow
How w flows through a specification
Choose a class and a permutation w in it. Its entries travel down the specification's rules, one rule a round, until every entry is a single point; Build w runs it backwards. The whole specification is drawn, fitted to the box; What w visits draws only the tilings that w passes through, and a large specification is colored by use and zooms.
The specifications are TileScope's (for the classes not on PermPAL) and PermPAL's (for the others). Every member up to the length given was followed through its class's specification in advance, with the forward maps of the rules in Tilings and comb_spec_searcher. Each class also has a showpiece: a member of length 30 found by a search for the one whose flow passes through the most of the specification's tilings, with the most of them busy at once, in few rounds. When PermPAL stores a class under one of its symmetries, the flow is of the matching symmetric form of w. With Color by use, each tiling is colored by how much it is used in building the class's permutations up to length 9: the share of them whose derivation passes through it, or how often it is used per permutation; these were counted once, over all of them. A large specification opens colored by use, like a heat map, and zooms (the buttons, or ⌘ or Ctrl with the scroll wheel, or a pinch) and moves (drag it); Fit fits it to the box again. Drawing only what w visits, the flow does not stop at the steps that only ask which branch w is in, such as whether a cell is empty, and an arrow marked · goes past them.
